Richard's Background

It's fair to say Richard lives and breathes mechanical engineering. From the moment he could walk he spent every second he could with his dad who was a self-employed agricultural engineer. This taught him the basic skills to get him going and gave him a jump start for his career as a mechanical engineer. He then went onto Cosworth Racing and did an advanced apprenticeship in tool making, before spending  number of years working for the Government as a prototype engineer designing and producing one off fine tolerance components.

From a very young age, Richard has always had a passion for vintage vehicles, and from the age of 12 he has been working on and collecting mostly prewar cars, motorcycles, and tractors in his spare time. In 2019 he decided to follow this passion as a career and went to work for Ecurie Bertelli where he was a specialist fabrication engineer, designing, making, and restoring all things pre-war Aston Martin.

After a few years in this industry, he moved to North Yorkshire with his wife Laura and in late 2023 set up R J Wray Engineering Services where we aim to run a small, honest, and friendly service repairing, reproducing and maintaining all things old.

If you have something you need fixing or making just get in touch and we'll do our best to help. Future services will include machining capabilities and more on this in due course.
